Summary:
Laytonville Unified includes two schools serving kindergarten through grade 12: Laytonville Elementary (K–8, 217 students) and Laytonville High (grades 9–12, 98 students). The most important takeaway is that elementary results were below state rates in all three tested subjects, while the high school had a more mixed profile, including above-state science results.
Laytonville High stands out on the supplied 2025–2026 all-grades results: it exceeded Laytonville Elementary by 25 points in ELA, 17 in math and 22 in science. Those results put the high school 3 points below the state in ELA, 5 below in math and 6 above in science; the elementary school was 28, 22 and 16 points below the state, respectively. SchoolDigger ranked the high school in the 62nd percentile with 3 stars and the elementary school in the 11th percentile with 1 star. At grade 11, the high school was 12 points below the state in ELA, but 1 point above in math and 3 above in science. The schools serve different grade spans and have no tested grade in common, so their all-grades scores are not a like-for-like comparison.
Results shifted in different ways between 2024–2025 and 2025–2026. Elementary ELA fell 10 points and science fell 11, while math was nearly unchanged; the state rose slightly in ELA and math and by 3 points in science. High-school ELA fell 15 points, moving from 12 points above the state to 3 below; math rose 1 point and science rose 1, with science remaining above the state. SchoolDigger’s three-year ranking history shows the elementary school at the 11th, 18th and 11th percentiles, while the high school moved from the 28th to the 73rd and then the 62nd. Both schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025 (75% at the elementary school and 77% at the high school); statewide, all students receive free meals (Community Eligibility). Chronic absenteeism was also high at both schools: 40% at the elementary school and 39% at the high school, compared with 18% statewide.
