Summary:

Thermalito Union Elementary includes five schools serving kindergarten through grade 8: four elementary schools and one middle school; one elementary school serves kindergarten only. Four schools have 2025–2026 test scores, while Siskiyou Avenue Elementary has no scores in the supplied data. The clearest overall finding is that school results vary considerably, with Plumas Avenue Elementary the strongest scored elementary school and Sierra Avenue Elementary the weakest in ELA and math.

Plumas Avenue Elementary leads the elementary schools in ELA and science, at 44% and 39%, and ties Poplar Avenue Elementary for the math lead at 33%. Even Plumas is 5 percentage points below the state in ELA and math, but 3 points above it in science. Sierra has the lowest elementary ELA and math results, at 25% and 16%; its 24% science result is close to Poplar’s 23%, the lowest elementary science score. Nelson Avenue Middle is best considered separately: its eighth-grade math result is 36.0%, compared with 36.3% statewide, a gap of just 0.2 percentage points. Its sixth-grade math gap is 18 points, showing how the all-grades result can hide differences by grade.

Scores improved on average across the four schools with results, but progress differed by school and subject: the average rose 1 percentage point in ELA and 3 points in math and science. Plumas improved in all three subjects; Sierra’s math and ELA fell while its science rose, and Poplar’s science fell as its ELA and math improved. SchoolDigger statewide rankings also rose for Plumas, from the 31st to the 49th percentile, and Poplar, from the 18th to the 33rd; Sierra slipped from the 15th to the 13th. The schools report similar free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025, from 84% at Poplar to 90% at Sierra; these figures are context, not an explanation for score differences.
