Middle Schools in Temple City Unified

The two schools in Temple City Unified serve grades 4–8: Cloverly Elementary serves grades 4–6, and Oak Avenue Intermediate serves grades 7–8. In 2025–2026, both schools’ all-grade results were well above California’s in English language arts, math and science; the two-school average was 69% in ELA, 70% in math and 59% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. The area’s clearest strength is math, where the average was 31 points above the state.

Cloverly had the higher reported all-grade result in each subject, but the differences were small: ELA was 69.5% versus 68.9% at Oak Avenue, math was 70% versus 69%, and science was 59.5% versus 59.0%. Both schools were above the state in every subject, with school-to-state advantages of about 20–32 points. Grade-level results show particular strengths in sixth-grade math at Cloverly (76%, 39 points above the state) and eighth-grade math at Oak Avenue (69%, 33 points above). Because the schools serve different grades, their all-grade results are not same-grade comparisons.

Recent results show different patterns rather than consistent gains across both schools: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, Oak Avenue’s ELA was nearly unchanged, while its math fell 1 point and science fell 2; Cloverly’s ELA fell 1 point, while its math rose 2 and science rose 3. Both schools had much lower chronic absenteeism than the state in 2025–2026: 4% at Oak Avenue and 5% at Cloverly, versus 18% statewide. In 2024–2025, Oak Avenue enrolled 839 students and had a student–teacher ratio of 24; Cloverly enrolled 460 and had a ratio of 30.6. Free/reduced lunch eligible rates that year were 39% at Oak Avenue and 44% at Cloverly. These are useful points of context alongside the schools’ differing grade spans and achievement patterns.
