Summary:
Solvang Elementary is the only school in this area: a K–8 school serving 602 students, with reported test results for grades 3–8 and science results for grades 5 and 8. In 2025–2026, Solvang Elementary was slightly above California in English language arts (ELA) and science, but below the state in math. The most important finding is that results declined in all three subjects from the previous year while state results rose.
Because there is only one school, it is both the area’s highest and lowest performer; the useful comparisons are with state results and across grades. Overall, Solvang Elementary was 2 percentage points above the state in ELA (51% versus 49%) and 3 points above in science (39% versus 36%), but 4 points below in math (34% versus 38%). Grade results show stronger pockets: eighth-grade ELA was 68%, 19 points above the state, and eighth-grade science was 53%, 18 points above. Math is the clearest concern: fifth-grade results were 20%, 17 points below the state, and sixth-grade results were 22%, 15 points below. Third-grade math, by contrast, was 54%, 8 points above the state.
The two-year trend is unfavorable across subjects: ELA at Solvang Elementary fell from 57% to 51%, math from 43% to 34%, and science from 45% to 39%; state results increased in each subject. SchoolDigger’s standing also declined, from the 62nd percentile and 3 stars in 2023–2024 to the 49th percentile and 2 stars in 2025–2026. Attendance is a relative strength: chronic absenteeism was 10.4%, compared with 18.3% statewide. Context for families includes a 19.3 student–teacher ratio in 2024–2025 and 38% free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–2025; these figures alone do not explain academic outcomes. Since the area has one school, there is no school-to-school comparison.
