Summary:

San Bruno Park Elementary includes five schools serving kindergarten through grade 8: four K–5 elementary schools and Parkside Intermediate for grades 6–8, with 2,001 students overall. In 2025–2026, the five schools’ equally weighted averages were 50% in ELA, 47% in math and 41% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. These averages do not describe every school: the most important finding is how widely results vary, especially in science, where the top and bottom schools are 68 points apart.

John Muir Elementary led in all three subjects, with 68% in ELA, 69% in math and 75% in science; Portola Elementary ranked second, at 65%, 62% and 67%. Both were above state results in every subject. At the other end, Belle Air Elementary scored 25% in ELA, 23% in math and 6% in science—below state results in all three. Allen (Decima M.) Elementary had a mixed profile, while Parkside was just above the state in math (39% versus 38%) but below in ELA and science.

Average results improved from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026: about 3 points in ELA, 3 in math and 4 in science, although some schools declined in particular subjects. SchoolDigger ranks Muir at the 88th percentile and Portola at the 85th, both four-star schools; Belle Air is at the 13th percentile and has one star. As context, free/reduced lunch eligible shares in 2024–2025 ranged from 30% at Muir to 76% at Belle Air; these figures describe differences, not causes. Student-teacher ratios also vary, from 16.3 at Parkside to 28.9 at Muir. Since the overall figures combine elementary and middle grades, grade-level results offer a more direct comparison across school types.
