Roseland

Roseland has three elementary schools serving kindergarten through sixth grade, with enrollments from 471 to 577. In 2025–2026, Sheppard Elementary, Roseland Creek Elementary, and Roseland Elementary all had lower all-grades proficiency than the state in ELA, math, and science. Across the schools, the unweighted average was 27% in ELA, 25% in math, and 12% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38%, and 36%. The most important area-wide finding is that every school is below the state in all three subjects, with the largest average shortfall in science.

Sheppard is the clear local academic leader: it posted 37% in ELA, 33% in math, and 20% in science, leading the next-highest school by 10, 8, and 10 percentage points, respectively. It is also the only school above the district in all three subjects, although it remains below the state. Roseland Creek is lowest, at 19% in ELA, 16% in math, and 6% in science; its Sheppard-to-Roseland Creek gaps range from 14 to 17 points. Roseland Elementary falls between them overall, but leads in fourth-grade ELA and math, at 36% in each. Sheppard also has the only listed grade-and-subject result above the state: fifth-grade ELA, 51% versus 49%.

Recent proficiency trends are mixed, with the three-school average falling 6 points in ELA and 4 in math from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while science rose 1 point. The state improved in all three subjects, so the average gap widened. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 ranking percentiles were 38 for Sheppard, 18 for Roseland Elementary, and 5 for Roseland Creek; over three years, the latter two each fell 18 percentile points, while Sheppard declined 1. Student-teacher ratios in 2024–2025 ranged from 20.4 at Roseland Elementary to 24 at Sheppard. Free/reduced lunch eligible shares that year ranged from 88% at Roseland Creek to 94% at Roseland Elementary; these are contextual figures, not explanations for achievement differences.
