Rescue Union Elementary has two middle schools, both serving grades 6–8: Marina Village Middle and Pleasant Grove Middle. In 2025–26, the schools’ average proficiency was 73% in English language arts (ELA), 54% in math and 56% in science, compared with 49%, 38% and 36% statewide. Both schools outperformed the state in every subject, but math is the area’s least consistent strength: Pleasant Grove was only 3 percentage points above the state.
Marina Village stands out as the top scorer, leading Pleasant Grove in all three subjects. Marina posted 80% in ELA, 67% in math and 66% in science, compared with Pleasant Grove’s 66%, 41% and 47%. The school-to-school gaps were 14 percentage points in ELA, 26 in math and 19 in science, making math the widest divide. Pleasant Grove is the lower-scoring school in each subject, though it still exceeded state results: its margins were 17 points in ELA, 3 in math and 11 in science.
Recent results show gains in ELA and math but a setback in science. From 2024–25 to 2025–26, the schools’ average proficiency rose 5 points in ELA and 2 in math, while science fell 2 points; the state’s science result rose 3 points, so the schools’ average advantage in that subject narrowed by 5 points. Marina Village also has the stronger SchoolDigger standing: 136th of 2,703 schools, in the 95th percentile with 5 stars, versus Pleasant Grove’s 588th, 78th percentile and 4 stars. The schools differ in other reported measures, too: Marina has a 21.4 student-teacher ratio and 13% free/reduced lunch eligible, while Pleasant Grove has a 18.7 ratio and 27% eligible; the lunch measure is for 2024–25. These are observations, not explanations for differences in results.
