Summary:

Redwood City Elementary has nine schools: six serving K–5 and three serving K–8. In 2025–26, their unweighted average proficiency was 42% in English language arts (ELA), compared with 49% statewide; 39% in math, versus 38%; and 27% in science, versus 36%. The clearest area-wide strength is math relative to the state, while science is the largest average shortfall. The most important finding for families is that results vary sharply depending on which school they consider.

Orion Alternative and Roy Cloud Elementary stand out across subjects: Orion led ELA at 67% and math at 65%, while Roy Cloud led science at 47%. Both were above the state in all three subjects; for example, Orion was ahead by 18 points in ELA and 27 in math, and Roy Cloud by 11 in science. At the other end, Hoover Elementary had the lowest math result, 12%, and Garfield Elementary had the lowest ELA and science results, 16% and 4%. Both were below state results in every subject. SchoolDigger ranked Orion and Roy Cloud in the 83rd and 79th percentiles statewide, compared with the 2nd and 5th percentiles for Hoover and Garfield.

Recent changes are mixed: the group average rose 5 points in math from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but ELA increased by less than a point and science dipped by less than a point; statewide science rose 3 points. Taft Elementary and Garfield made notable math gains of 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Taft also had the group’s highest chronic absenteeism, 24%, versus 18% statewide. SchoolDigger’s three-year rankings improved for several schools, including Roosevelt, up 14 percentile points, though Clifford slipped 3 and Hoover 5. The reported free/reduced lunch eligible rates for 2024–25 ranged from 15% at Roy Cloud to 97% at Hoover; Henry Ford Elementary, at 66%, was above the state in ELA and math, illustrating that these figures are context, not an explanation of results. Ratios also vary, from 18.8 students per teacher at Roy Cloud to 25.3 at Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion.
