Summary:
Pond Elementary is the only school in the Pond Union Elementary list, serving kindergarten through grade 8 with 175 students, so families do not have another listed local school to compare it with. In 2025–2026, the school’s all-grades proficiency was 37% in English language arts (ELA), 23% in math, and 14% in science, compared with California’s 49%, 38%, and 36%. The clearest overall concern is science, where results were 22 percentage points below the state.
Within the school, third-grade ELA is the standout strength: 59% of students were proficient, 15 points above the state’s 44%. That is a notable exception to the overall ELA result, which was 12 points below the state. Science is the weakest overall subject, and math also trails the state by 16 points. Results differ across grades: ELA ranged from 27% proficient in grade 6 to 59% in grade 3, while math ranged from 12% in grade 7 to 35% in grade 4. These grade-level contrasts show why the schoolwide averages do not tell the whole story.
Recent results show clear improvement in ELA, but not across every subject. From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, ELA proficiency rose from 22% to 37%, narrowing the gap with the state by 15 points. Math increased by 2 points, while science fell by 2 points and its gap with the state widened by 5 points. SchoolDigger’s ranking also improved, from the 19th percentile in 2023–2024 to the 35th in 2025–2026, and its rating rose from one star to two; these rankings do not mean current scores match state results. The student–teacher ratio was 17.1:1 in 2024–2025, and 96% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible that year. Chronic absenteeism was 3% in 2025–2026, compared with 18% statewide, a favorable attendance comparison.
