Summary:
Millbrae Elementary has five schools: four elementary schools serving kindergarten through grade 5 and Taylor Middle, serving grades 6–8. In 2025–2026, the five-school average was above the state in all three subjects: 62% in English language arts (ELA) versus 49% statewide, 62% in math versus 38%, and 52% in science versus 36%. The clearest dividing line is Lomita Park: its results were 28% in ELA, 31% in math, and 24% in science, compared with averages of 70%, 70%, and 59% at the other four schools; Lomita was also below the state in every subject, while the other four schools were above it.
Green Hills leads all-grades ELA and math, with 75% and 76%, narrowly ahead of Meadows at 74% and 75%. Spring Valley leads science at 60%, less than 1 percentage point ahead of Green Hills. Among elementary schools, Green Hills also leads grade 5 ELA and grade 3 and grade 5 math; Meadows leads grade 4 math. These close top results contrast with Lomita’s much lower scores. Taylor is above the state in all three subjects, though its middle-school results should not be treated as a direct grade-for-grade comparison with the elementary schools.
Recent results are mixed: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the five-school averages fell 3 percentage points in ELA and 2 in math, but rose 7 in science; the group’s advantage over the state narrowed in ELA and math and grew in science. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking for Lomita fell from 43 to 27 over three years, while the other schools’ latest rankings ranged from 87 to 91. In 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible shares ranged from 15% at Meadows and Green Hills to 35% at Lomita; these figures are context, not an explanation for school results. Student-teacher ratios ranged from 22.3 at Taylor to 26.7 at Spring Valley, showing that ratios alone do not sort the elementary schools by results. All-grades results combine different grade spans, so elementary schools are best compared by matching grade.
