Lakeport Unified has one listed middle school, Terrace Middle, serving grades 5–8 with 370 students. With just one school, there is no local school-to-school comparison; the clearest concern is that Terrace’s 2025–26 proficiency was below California’s in all three subjects, with the largest gap in mathematics.
Terrace Middle is both the highest- and lowest-performing school in this one-school group by default. Its all-grades results were 25% in ELA, 12% in mathematics, and 18% in science, compared with California’s 49%, 38%, and 36%, respectively. Those results put Terrace 24 points below the state in ELA, 26 points below in mathematics, and 18 points below in science. Within the school, grade 6 had the strongest reported ELA and mathematics results, at 30% and 16%; grade 8 had the lowest, at 19% and 9%. Science results were 24% in grade 5 and 13% in grade 8. These are differences between grades, not evidence of how the same students progress.
Recent trends are mixed: from 2024–25 to 2025–26, ELA rose 2 points and its gap with the state narrowed by 1 point; mathematics barely changed and its gap widened by 1 point; science fell 3 points as the state improved, widening the gap by 6 points. SchoolDigger ranks Terrace 2,460 of 2,703 statewide, at the 9th percentile with zero stars; its percentile stayed at 9 for the last two reported years after being 13 in 2023–24. Chronic absenteeism was 28%, below the district’s 34% but above the state’s 18%. For context, 79% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–25, and the student-teacher ratio was 17.2 that year.
