Hope Elementary

The Hope Elementary area includes three public elementary schools—Vieja Valley Elementary, Hope Elementary, and Monte Vista Elementary—all serving kindergarten through grade 6. In 2025–26, all three were above California’s all-grades proficiency rates in English, math, and science. The schools’ average was about 14 percentage points above the state in English, 20 points above in math, and 14 points above in science. The clearest difference within the group is that science results vary much more from school to school than English or math.

Monte Vista Elementary stands out as the all-grades leader, with 66% proficiency in English, 61% in math, and 63% in science. Its science result is 17 points above the next-highest school; its leads in English and math are about 3 points each. Vieja Valley Elementary has the lowest all-grades English and math results, at 60% and 57%, while Hope Elementary has the lowest science result, at 39%. Grade-level results add useful detail: Hope leads grade 4 math at 74%, but its grade 5 math is 34%, about 2 points below the state rate. It also leads grade 3 and grade 4 English.

Despite remaining above state rates overall, all three schools’ results declined in every subject from 2024–25 to 2025–26. The schools’ average fell 6 points in English, 4 in math, and 11 in science, while state rates rose. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 rankings place Monte Vista highest in this group, at 955th of 5,804 schools (84th percentile), followed by Hope at 1,291st (78th) and Vieja Valley at 1,329th (77th); all three schools’ percentiles have also fallen since 2023–24. Other school differences may help families compare: student–teacher ratios range from 17.4 at Hope to 20.8 at Vieja Valley, and 2024–25 free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 42% at Hope, 28% at Vieja Valley, and 26% at Monte Vista. These are contextual differences, not explanations for achievement results.
