Summary:
Fall River Joint Unified has nine schools: two elementary schools, six high schools, and one alternative school, with no middle schools; enrollments range from 10 to 349 students. Four schools have reported all-grades test scores for 2025–2026, and their results show the clearest districtwide contrast: science is close to the state level, while math trails it by the widest margin.
Fall River Elementary leads the four schools with reported scores in ELA and math, at 45% and 35%; those results are 7 and 9 percentage points above the other schools’ averages, though still 4 and 3 points below state figures. Burney Elementary leads in science at 41%, about 5 points above both the other schools’ average and the state. At the other end, Burney Junior-Senior High is lowest in ELA and science, by 6 and 8 points relative to the other schools’ averages; Fall River Junior-Senior High is lowest in math, by 10 points. The regular high schools also report 100% graduation and 0% dropout, compared with 88% and 8% statewide, but chronic absenteeism is about 32% at each, versus 18% statewide. State-suppressed school-level test scores mean the alternative and specialized schools cannot be compared on proficiency.
Across the four schools with scores, the average moved down 1 point in ELA and 4 in math from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while science rose 7 points; science improved at all four schools, but math fell at three. SchoolDigger’s latest rankings place Fall River Elementary at the 53rd percentile and Fall River Junior-Senior High at the 58th; since 2023–2024, their rankings rose 9 and slipped 1 percentile point, respectively. For context, elementary student-teacher ratios are similar—18.6 at Burney and 18.4 at Fall River—and the regular high-school ratios are 15.1 and 14.9. School-level free/reduced lunch eligible figures for school year 2024–2025 range from 42% to 77% across the district; these figures provide context, not an explanation for school results.
