Middle Schools in Compton Unified

Compton Unified has five middle schools: four serve grades 6–8, while Enterprise Middle serves grades 7–8. In 2025–2026, the schools’ average proficiency was 54% in ELA and 50% in math, compared with statewide averages of 49% and 38%; the science average was 31%, versus 36% statewide. The most important finding is how widely results vary among schools: the gap between the highest and lowest results was 61 percentage points in ELA, 41 in math and 31 in science.

Early College Middle stood out at the top, leading all three subjects with 90% in ELA, 70% in math and 49% in science. It was 31 points above the next-highest school in ELA, 14 points ahead in math and 17 points ahead in science. At the other end, Enterprise Middle had the lowest results in all three: 29% in ELA, 29% in math and 18% in science. Bunche Middle also merits attention for its recent improvement, while Davis Middle led grade 8 math at 54%.

Recent progress was strongest at Bunche, whose 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 results rose 16 points in ELA, 26 in math and 24 in science—the largest math and science gains among these schools. Across the five schools, average math rose 5 points and science 9 points, while ELA was essentially flat; Early College remained the top performer, though its science score fell 4 points. SchoolDigger’s ranking percentiles also rose from 25 to 77 for Bunche, while Early College stayed high, moving from 95 to 94. Reported student–teacher ratios range from 18 at Enterprise to 28 at Early College. All five schools report a free/reduced lunch eligible measure for 2024–2025, ranging from 88% to 93%; these figures are context, not an explanation for score differences.
