Summary:
Schools in Columbia Elementary School District include two schools serving kindergarten through eighth grade: Columbia Elementary (K–4, 430 students) and Mountain View Middle (grades 5–8, 327 students). The main difference is achievement, particularly in math: in 2025–26, the schools’ all-grades math results were 56% and 23%, respectively. Since the schools cover different grade spans, their all-grades figures are not a grade-matched comparison. The most important takeaway is that these schools have sharply different achievement profiles, with the largest divide in math.
Columbia Elementary stands out for stronger results in both tested subjects: its ELA proficiency was 54%, compared with 41% at Mountain View Middle, a 13-point gap; in math, Columbia’s 56% was 33 points higher than Mountain View’s 23%. Columbia was 5 points above the state in ELA and 18 points above in math, while Mountain View was 8 points below the state in ELA and 15 points below in math. Mountain View’s grade-level results show an important exception: eighth-grade ELA was 51%, 2 points above the state, while sixth-grade ELA was 24%, 24 points below. Mountain View’s science proficiency was 31%, 5 points below the state.
Recent results moved in opposite directions: from 2024–25 to 2025–26, Columbia gained 4 points in ELA and 5 in math, while Mountain View fell by 1 point in each subject. SchoolDigger’s rankings also diverged: Columbia rose from the 64th percentile in 2023–24 to the 73rd in 2025–26 and received four stars; Mountain View dropped from the 65th to the 40th percentile and received two stars. Other reported measures are similar: in 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible was 40% at Columbia and 41% at Mountain View, and student-teacher ratios were 18.6 and 18.2, respectively. These figures offer context, but do not explain the schools’ different results.
