Scotts Valley Unified

Scotts Valley Unified includes four schools—two elementary, one middle and one high school—with 2,121 students total and enrollments ranging from 463 to 611. In 2025–2026, the four-school averages were 69% proficient in English language arts (ELA), 61% in math and 59% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. The clearest area-wide finding is that every school was above the state result in all three subjects.

Different schools lead in different subjects, while Vine Hill Elementary leads ELA at 71% and Brook Knoll Elementary leads math at 70% and science at 64%. Brook Knoll’s math result is 12 percentage points above the average of the other schools; its science result is 7 points above them. Scotts Valley High is lowest in all three subjects: 68% in ELA, 52% in math and 52% in science. Its math and science results are 12 and 9 points below the other schools’ averages, respectively. Yet the High’s 99% graduation rate exceeds the district’s 91% and the state’s 88%.

Area averages rose by 2 points in math and 7 in science from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while ELA fell by 1 point; changes varied by school, including a 20-point science gain at Brook Knoll. SchoolDigger gives all four schools four stars; its statewide rankings shifted modestly over three years, from the 92nd to 86th percentile for the High, 86th to 87th for Vine Hill, 88th to 89th for Brook Knoll, and 88th to 87th for Scotts Valley Middle. As context, free/reduced lunch eligible shares in 2024–2025 were 11% at the High, 11% at Vine Hill, 14% at Brook Knoll and 11% at the Middle. Among the elementary schools, Vine Hill’s student-teacher ratio is 24.9, compared with Brook Knoll’s 22.4; these measures are observations, not explanations for test results.
