Summary:

Dos Palos Oro Loma Joint Unified has five schools serving kindergarten through grade 12: two elementary schools, a middle school and two high schools. The clearest concern is Westside High, where 2025–26 proficiency was just 4% in each reported subject and chronic absenteeism reached 84%, compared with 25% districtwide and 18% statewide. Its 93% graduation rate was above the state’s 88%, making the sharp contrast between attendance and graduation measures especially notable. Westside’s very low proficiency combined with exceptionally high absenteeism is the most important concern for families comparing these schools.

Results vary sharply by school and subject. Dos Palos High led in ELA at 46% and science at 27%; its ELA result was 20 percentage points above the next-highest school, Bernhard Marks Elementary, and its science result was 2 points higher. Bernhard Marks led in math at 24%, 15 points above Bryant Middle. Westside was lowest in every subject: its results were 26 points below the other schools’ average in ELA, 9 points below in math and 17 points below in science. No reporting school reached the state average in any subject; even the leaders were 3 points below state ELA, 15 below state math and 9 below state science.

Average results improved from 2024–25 to 2025–26: about 4 percentage points in ELA, 1 in math and 5 in science across the four reporting schools. ELA and science gained more than statewide results, while math improved by about the same amount as the state. SchoolDigger lists the district at the 8th percentile with 0 stars; its school rankings show mixed movement, including a 5-point rise for Bernhard Marks and a 16-point drop for Dos Palos High from 2023–24 to 2025–26. As context, all five schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–25, with shares from 88% to 93%. Westside enrolls 71 students and has a 14.2 student-teacher ratio, while Dos Palos High enrolls 639 and has a 19.3 ratio. Dos Palos Elementary serves kindergarten through grade 2 but has no reported test results.
