Summary:

Murrieta Valley Unified has four high schools serving grades 9–12: three large comprehensive schools and the much smaller Murrieta Options Academy. The three comprehensive schools have reported all-grades test results for 2025–26, while Options Academy does not. Across those three schools, average proficiency was 79% in English language arts (ELA), 44% in math and 50% in science—above state results in every subject. The most important takeaway is that all three comprehensive schools outperform the state in all three subjects.

Vista Murrieta High leads the comprehensive schools in every subject, with 82% in ELA, 48% in math and 53% in science; it is 5 percentage points above the other two schools’ average in each subject. Murrieta Valley High ranks second, at 79%, 45% and 48%, respectively. Murrieta Mesa High is the local low in each subject, at 75% in ELA, 39% in math and 47% in science, but still exceeds state results by 26, 1 and 11 points, respectively. Options Academy has 12 students and no reported test percentages; its reported graduation rate is 86%, dropout rate 7% and chronic absenteeism 80%.

Average results rose from 2024–25 to 2025–26 by 1 point in ELA, 5 points in math and 5 points in science, though individual schools did not all improve: Murrieta Valley’s science result climbed 11 points, while Murrieta Mesa’s ELA result fell 3 points. SchoolDigger gives all three comprehensive schools four stars; its latest rankings are 245 of 2,137 for Vista, 305 for Murrieta Valley and 407 for Murrieta Mesa. Vista’s ranking has been relatively steady, while the other two have moved around more. Class size and income measures also differ: in 2024–25, student-teacher ratios ranged from 21.8 at Mesa to 22.8 at Vista, and free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 46.7% at Murrieta Valley, 59.7% at Mesa and 51.5% at Vista; these are context, not explanations for test results. Vista’s 12th-grade science result is a notable exception to its strong overall showing: 8%, compared with 54% in 11th grade.
