Summary:

Tujunga has five schools serving kindergarten through grade 5 and grades 9–12, with 2,263 students in total, in Los Angeles Unified. Elementary results are below the state average in all three subjects: the schools’ averages trail by 12 points in English language arts (ELA), 5 in mathematics and 14 in science. The two high schools average about the state result in mathematics, but that figure hides a wide split between them. The central takeaway is that results differ considerably by school and subject, so an area-wide average can obscure important contrasts.

Mountain View Elementary leads the elementary schools, with 47% proficient in ELA, 48% in mathematics and 30% in science in 2025–2026. It outscored Plainview Academic Charter Academy, the lowest-scoring elementary school, by 23 points in ELA, 27 in mathematics and 12 in science; Plainview’s results were 24%, 21% and 18%. Among the high schools, Verdugo Hills Senior High led in ELA (53%) and science (36%), while Mt. Lukens Continuation led in mathematics, 47% to Verdugo’s 29%. Verdugo also reported a 99% graduation rate, compared with 73% at Mt. Lukens.

Pinewood Avenue Elementary made the clearest across-the-board improvement among the elementary schools, rising 10 points in ELA, 5 in mathematics and 10 in science from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026. SchoolDigger ranked Pinewood at the 37th percentile, compared with the 61st for Mountain View and 13th for Plainview; these rankings are separate from proficiency scores. School size and student–teacher ratio do not neatly track results: Mountain View had the highest elementary ratio (23.6) and led in mathematics, while Pinewood’s was 15.3 and Plainview’s 19. The reported free/reduced lunch eligible shares for 2024–2025 were 76% at Mountain View, 88% at Plainview and 96% at Pinewood; these figures offer context, not an explanation of achievement. Comparisons are most useful within school levels, and Mt. Lukens’s results should be considered in light of its enrollment of just 38 students.
