Summary:
High schools in Lompoc, California, include four schools: Lompoc High, Cabrillo High, and Maple High serve grades 9–12, while Dr Bob Forinash Community Day serves grades 7–12. In 2025–26, the three schools with numeric results averaged 23% proficient in ELA, 12% in math, and 23% in science, below state averages of 49%, 38%, and 36%; science was closest to the state. The most important finding is how sharply results differ by school, especially between Cabrillo and Maple.
Cabrillo High led the schools with reported results in all three subjects, with 36% proficient in ELA, 24% in math, and 39% in science; its science score was 3 percentage points above the state. Maple High had the lowest results: 5% in ELA, 0% in math, and 3% in science. Cabrillo’s lead over Maple was 31 points in ELA, 24 in math, and 36 in science. Cabrillo also had the highest reported graduation rate, 95%, compared with 90% at Lompoc High and 88% statewide. Maple’s dropout rate was a relative bright spot at 4%, below the state’s 8%, but its chronic absenteeism was 81%, compared with about 22% at Cabrillo and Lompoc.
Across the three schools with results in both years, average ELA proficiency fell 5 percentage points from 2024–25 to 2025–26, math fell 3 points, and science rose 3 points; the average gap with the state widened in all three subjects. Cabrillo’s scores declined in each subject, while Lompoc’s science result rose 7 points. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 statewide rankings place Cabrillo at the 49th percentile, Lompoc at the 31st, and Maple at the 2nd; their star ratings are 2, 2, and 0. In 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 48% at Cabrillo, 77% at Lompoc, 85% at Maple, and 97% at Forinash; these are contextual figures, not an explanation of results. Maple’s student–teacher ratio was lower than Cabrillo’s (14.7 versus 19.0), but its scores were much lower. Forinash’s 2025–26 all-grades ELA, math, and science results are suppressed, so its current test performance cannot be compared.
