Summary:

Arleta has six schools serving 3,282 students: five elementary schools—Canterbury Avenue Elementary, Vena Avenue Elementary, Sharp Avenue Elementary, Beachy Avenue Elementary, and Valor Academy Elementary—and Arleta High. Valor serves K–4, the other elementary schools serve K–5, and Arleta High serves grades 9–12. Five schools are in Los Angeles Unified; Valor is in the separate Valor Academy Elementary District. The latest results are from 2025–2026 for five schools; Valor’s latest are from 2024–2025. The clearest overall finding is that elementary results vary substantially, while Vena leads the four comparable K–5 schools in every tested subject.

Vena is the strongest K–5 performer: in 2025–2026, 58% of students were proficient in English, 54% in math, and 46% in science—about 19, 21, and 23 percentage points above the other three schools’ averages, respectively. Vena also exceeded state results in all three subjects. At the other end, Sharp had the lowest results, at 33% in English, 26% in math, and 10% in science; those were 16, 13, and 26 points below state results. Arleta High combines a 97% graduation rate with a 3% dropout rate, both better than state figures, but its math proficiency was 12% versus 38% statewide. Valor’s 2024–2025 math result was about level with the state, while its English result was lower.

Recent changes are mixed rather than a clear area-wide upswing: among five schools with two years of results, average English and science gaps to the state narrowed by about 1 point each, while the math gap widened by about 1 point. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 rankings place Vena at the 75th percentile, Canterbury at the 59th, Sharp at the 25th, Beachy at the 33rd, and Arleta High at the 35th; those are rankings, not proficiency rates. The four K–5 schools have student-teacher ratios from 19.4 to 21.5, but those figures do not align with a simple performance pattern. All schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025: from 79% at Vena to 97% at Sharp. These are context, not explanations for school results.
