Summary:
The Flagstaff area, located in the 86001 zip code, is home to two high schools: Flagstaff High School, a public high school, and Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy, a public charter high school. While both schools serve students in the same geographic area, the data reveals significant differences in their academic performance and overall quality.
Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy stands out as the higher-performing school, ranking 27th out of 271 Arizona high schools for the 2024-2025 school year and earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. In contrast, Flagstaff High School is ranked 149th and has a 2-star rating. The charter school also significantly outperforms the public high school and the state average on state assessments in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.
Despite the performance gap, both schools have similar 4-year graduation rates of around 78.4% and dropout rates of around 5.2% for the 2023-2024 school year. However, the lack of detailed financial and staffing data for Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy makes it difficult to fully compare the two institutions. Further investigation into the specific factors contributing to the charter school's success could provide valuable insights for improving educational outcomes across the Flagstaff Unified District and the Flagstaff Arts And Leadership Academy district.
