Summary

Valley View School is an elementary school serving grades PK-8 in the Roosevelt Elementary District in Phoenix, Arizona, with 520 students. However, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Arizona elementary schools over the past decade, earning a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most years.

Valley View School consistently underperforms compared to the state and its own district averages across various standardized tests. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 18-42% of Valley View students were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 36-46%. In math, the proficiency rates were even lower, ranging from 17-31%, well below the state's 27-42% averages. The school also has relatively high dropout rates, ranging from 2.5% to 6.1%, significantly higher than the state's average elementary school dropout rate. Despite spending more per student ($12,979 in 2021-2022) compared to the state average, these investments have not translated into improved academic outcomes.

The challenges faced by Valley View School are not unique, as the other schools in the Roosevelt Elementary District, as well as some nearby charter schools, also struggle academically and have similar low rankings. This suggests that the issues may be systemic within the district. Additionally, Valley View School's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with African American students performing relatively well, while Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Special Education students struggle. Addressing these challenges will require a comprehensive approach, including targeted interventions and support, to help all students succeed.

Open Quote Valley View was a good school at the begining. When I found out more about the school thats when the issues started. Whenever there was issues nothing was done to help the students. Teachers seem care more about the extra activities and animales then the students needs. I would reccomend the school if some of the teachers where removed and more serious actions were carried out to misbehaved students. Close Quote
