Summary

San Tan Heights Elementary School serves 669 students in prekindergarten through grade 8 in San Tan Valley, within Florence Unified School District. Its most important challenge is low achievement across English language arts (ELA) and math: in 2025–26, 21% of students were proficient in ELA and 18% in math, both below state results, and its SchoolDigger statewide ranking was in the 6th percentile.

ELA is the clearest weakness compared with the state, district and nearby schools: the school’s 21% was below the state’s 41%, the district’s 26%, and the nearby-school average of about 40%. Math proficiency was 18%, 15 percentage points below the state and equal to the district; it was also below the nearby average of about 32%. Grades 5 and 6 are particular concerns. Grade 5 had 15% proficiency in ELA and 21% in math; grade 6 had 20% in ELA and 13% in math. Both grades were among the lowest in nearby same-grade comparisons. Science in grade 8 is a relative bright spot: its 24% proficiency was above the district’s 20%, though below the state’s 30% and the nearby average of about 27%. Grade 5 science was much weaker, at 20%, below both the state and district and the lowest among eight nearby schools with results.

Grade 8 science has improved, rising from 8% in 2022–23 to 24% in 2024–25, while the gap with the state narrowed from 19 to 6 percentage points. By contrast, grade 5 science fell from 27% to 20%. SchoolDigger’s overall ranking rose from the 18th percentile in 2023–24 to the 22nd in 2024–25, then dropped to the 6th percentile in 2025–26 (843rd of 900 schools, with 0 stars). Its student–teacher ratio was 16.5, around the middle of nearby schools; its reported free/reduced-lunch rate was 55% in 2022–23. One notable subgroup change in SchoolDigger’s ranking of the school’s effectiveness: for Low Socio Economic Status Students, it fell from the 42nd percentile in 2024–25 to the 12th in 2025–26, while the overall ranking moved from the 22nd to the 6th percentile.
