Open Quote All smoke and mirrors folks. All smoke and mirrors. Yes, your children will have access to a more robust academic curriculum, however, don't expect them to teach it to your kids. They are hiring individuals with no degree in education, no experience in teaching, no certifications whatsoever to teach, and, often new grads to be the LEAD teacher and allowing these folks to deviate from Great Hearts Policies. No oversight of this. Despite what they say...Athenaeum is nothing more than aftercare. They don't, at least at this location, help the kids academically and certainly not individually. Arbitrary punishments, such as making a 4 yr old in week 2 of the school year (Kindergarten baby) be humiliated in front of her peers by making the child pick up others trash while they are eating because the child didn't want to eat the snack the "TEACHER" selected for her. Power corrupts...absolute power corrupts absolutely. I was so excited about Great Hearts...but this place is nothing like the reviews and all the hype described. Remember...it is essentially a franchise out of Texas...and boy are they addicted to the money these schools are pouring in. Unsuspecting parents have no idea they are merely buying access to curriculum and exposing their kids to unqualified/non certified folks off the street which results in requiring parents to teach the volumes of material to their children at home.
