Open Quote Glendale Preparatory Academy is a traditional liberal arts school in the tradition that dates back to Sir Isaac Newton and Faraday and Einstein. But your child does not have to be a genius to attend this school. They admit any child who is eligible for any public school. However, your child must work hard and long to graduate all the way to the 12th grade.

There is a good dose of classical western philosophy which is explained to the students in plain language, although the reading of it would be challenging to any adult. There is an emphasis on teaching the student to think for themselves.

Although this school does well on AIMs tests it does not spend any time in specifically preparing students for the tests. Nor does this school watch over students as they take the tests to point out wrong answers (which is unfortunately the most common practice of the public school system.)

Children are educated in a highly moral and disciplined environment. The classes are large sized from 6th through 8th grade. From 9th grade to 12th grade they become very small as compared to public schools due to students transferring for one reason or the other. GP does not accept student transfers from any school not in Great Hearts Academy from the 9th grade onward because there is no way for the student to catch up to the Great Hearts standard at the 9th grade level.

By 9th grade your child will have had all of the state requirements for education plus three years of high school Latin. By the time of 12th grade graduation your student will have been taught the great books of western literature and will have had 6 years of foreign language study as well as all of the state requirements for math, science and language.

Gifted children usually finish their nightly homework in less than an hour. Average students will take 1.5 to 2.5 hours to finish their homework. Hard working children of average intelligence have just as much of a chance to succeed as do their gifted counterparts.

This is a wonderful school with a very disciplined and very moral environment. I could not recommend it enough.
