Summary

Prairie Grove Elementary School serves 763 students from Pre-K through 3rd grade in the semi-rural Prairie Grove area, about 5-10 miles from Fayetteville, and has recently achieved a notable 4-star rating after years of steady improvement.

Prairie Grove Elementary stands out for its exceptional science instruction, with 59.7% of students proficient in science—far exceeding the state average of 44% and outperforming nearly all nearby schools, including Vandergriff Elementary (80%) and Holcomb Elementary (65.1%). The school has shown broad-based academic growth across all subjects from 2023-2024 to 2025-2026, with proficiency jumps of over 12 percentage points in English Language Arts, Reading, and Mathematics, and a remarkable 26.7-point increase in Science. This consistent upward trend contrasts with schools like Bob Folsom Elementary in the Farmington School District, which dropped from a 5-star to a 3-star rating in the same period. Prairie Grove also achieves these results efficiently, spending just $10,340 per student—significantly less than nearby schools with similar or lower performance, such as Leverett Elementary ($15,481) and Lincoln Elementary ($15,064).

The school’s success is particularly impressive given its moderate free/reduced lunch rate of 47.18%, as it outperforms schools with both lower poverty rates (like Holcomb at 30.51%) and much higher rates (like Asbell Elementary at 87.46% and Greenland Elementary at 98.92%). Prairie Grove sits in a sweet spot between the elite, high-spending Fayetteville School District and struggling schools, offering a high-quality, stable education that rivals middle-to-upper tier Fayetteville schools like Owl Creek School. Its Prairie Grove School District ranks 28th out of 251 in Arkansas (89th percentile), providing strong district-level support that makes this school a compelling choice for families seeking effective, cost-efficient education.

Open Quote I've found that Prairie Grove Elementary is so clickish. They care more about wearing their uggs and starting rumors about children, gossiping and being snarky than they actually do about teaching the children. Their communication efforts are a joke. Don't send your kids here if you actually want them to learn. Close Quote
