Summary

Mountain Pine Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 305 students in grades K-6 in Mountain Pine, Arkansas, which is part of the Mountain Pine School District.

Despite relatively high per-student spending and a small student-teacher ratio, Mountain Pine Elementary consistently performs significantly below the state average in all subject areas and grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 14.2% of students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 34.7%. The school also lags behind in math, with only 23.5% proficient or better compared to the state's 38.7%. As a result, Mountain Pine Elementary has been ranked in the bottom quartile of Arkansas elementary schools for the past 10 years, consistently ranking between 351-448 out of 487-495 schools.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as Cutter-Morning Star Elementary, Jessieville Elementary, and Lake Hamilton Elementary, generally perform much better than Mountain Pine Elementary across all subject areas and grade levels. These schools have higher test scores, better rankings, and lower free/reduced lunch rates, indicating they serve more advantaged student populations. Despite the consistent funding and small student-teacher ratio, Mountain Pine Elementary has not shown any meaningful improvement in its test scores or rankings over the past 10 years, suggesting that the school may be facing deeper systemic challenges that go beyond just resource allocation.

Open Quote Very behind academically. Even starting in kindergarten. My son was coming home with work that most 4 year olds could easily do, and his class progressed very slowly. It seemed as though this was not due to the needs of the majority of the students in his class, they were all more than capable of progressing faster. The entire school's test scores are abysmal, it rather seems as though they aren't funded well enough to hire decent teachers. I went to Mtn. Pine growing up K-12 as well, and was not at all prepared for college when i attempted it. I moved my children to a different school, with the same size and funding, with much better results. Homeschool is a better option than Mountain Pine if that is a possibility for you. If you have no choice or are low-income, I would suggest supplementing your childs education as best as you can from home with other resources. I am very sad that I have to give a huge thumbs down to my alma mater. Close Quote
