Summary

International Studies Magnet is a public elementary school in Jonesboro, AR, serving 636 students in grades 1-6 as part of the Jonesboro School District. Despite the district's overall low ranking, this school stands out as a high-performing, above-average school that consistently outperforms many nearby schools, including other magnet schools in the same district.

International Studies Magnet is a clear academic leader in its area, significantly outperforming other district magnet schools like Math & Science Magnet School and Leadership Magnet School, which rank in the bottom 10% of the state. For example, in English Language Arts, International Studies Magnet's proficiency rate (44.1%) is more than double that of Math & Science Magnet (16.9%) and Leadership Magnet (17.5%). Its closest competitor, Visual & Performing Arts Magnet, has slightly higher overall scores, but International Studies Magnet shows a stronger upward trend, with significantly higher scores in the previous school year. The school also consistently exceeds state averages in math and science, and its 6th grade cohort is particularly strong, with proficiency rates dramatically higher than the state average in every subject.

One of the most impressive takeaways is the school's performance in the context of its student population, where 100% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite this high-poverty demographic, International Studies Magnet achieves test scores on par with or above the state average, a powerful indicator of effective teaching and strong school leadership. The school also demonstrates financial efficiency, spending less per student ($11,138) than lower-performing peers like Math & Science Magnet ($13,549) and Leadership Magnet ($12,640). This combination of academic success, resilience, and efficient resource use makes International Studies Magnet a standout choice for families in the Jonesboro area.

Open Quote I think it is the best elementary school in the Jonesboro area. The pricipal, teachers and support staff are very courteous and professional. You know it is the best school for your children from the moment you walk into the building. It is a very good enviornment for children to learn utilizing 2 computer labs, library, art, and music to learn about the world around us. It is #1 in my opinion. Close Quote
