Summary

Huntsville Intermediate School in Huntsville, AR, serves 479 students in grades 3 through 5 within the Huntsville School District, a district ranked 171 out of 251 in Arkansas.

Academically, Huntsville Intermediate is working to improve, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts (37.2%), Reading (37.9%), Mathematics (33.9%), and Science (38.1%) all falling slightly below state averages. A key differentiator is the comparison with nearby Elkins Elementary School, just 16 miles away in the Elkins School District, which is a top-tier school with proficiency rates roughly double Huntsville’s in every subject. Huntsville Intermediate also has the highest student-teacher ratio (18:1) among nearby schools and the lowest spending per student ($10,167), suggesting efficient use of funds but potentially larger class sizes. Interestingly, Kingston Elementary School, despite having the highest poverty rate in the area (97.5% free/reduced lunch), achieves higher proficiency rates than Huntsville, though its performance is volatile due to its small enrollment.

There are positive signs: the school’s state ranking has improved from the 26th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 38th percentile in 2025-2026, and 5th graders now perform at or above state averages in Reading and Science. However, a consistent "4th grade slump" is a critical area for intervention, as 4th graders significantly underperform compared to 3rd and 5th graders in every subject. This pattern suggests a need for targeted support in the 4th-grade curriculum or instruction.

Open Quote Not a bad school, but to many in a classroom per teacher in my opinion. When u put 25 in class per teacher the kids don't learn as well as if is were 17-20. Plus when there's that many and you have multiple kids disrupting and the teacher can't do their lessons like they need. Less students per class and I think this schools rating could really go up.
