Wadley High School

Wadley High School is a small, rural public school in Wadley, AL, serving 372 students from Pre-K through 12th grade within the Randolph County school district.

One of the most striking things about Wadley is its exceptional attendance record. Chronic absenteeism—the percentage of students missing significant school days—is remarkably low at just 5.1%, which is less than half the district rate and far better than the state average. This suggests a strong, caring school community where families are engaged and kids want to be in class. The school also shows real strength in early education, with 3rd-grade English proficiency that has at times outpaced both the district and state by significant margins. Recent graduation rates have also improved to 90.3%, and there are positive signs of progress in 11th-grade science and math scores.

However, the school faces significant academic challenges, particularly in mathematics. While Wadley excels at creating a welcoming environment that keeps students coming to school, it struggles to translate that engagement into academic achievement in the upper grades. The recent upward trends in several metrics, however, suggest the school may be on a positive trajectory.
