Summary

Falkville Elementary School serves approximately 381 students in grades PK-5 in the small town of Falkville, Alabama, as part of the Morgan County school district, where about 68% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

One of the most important things to know about Falkville Elementary is that chronic absenteeism is a significant challenge. In the 2024-2025 school year, 17.7% of students were chronically absent—meaning they missed 10% or more of the school year. That's nearly double the district average of 9.3% and well above the state average of 12.0%. To put this in perspective, nearby Barkley Bridge Elementary has a chronic absenteeism rate of just 1.8%, and West Point Intermediate School sits at 2.2%. Even Eva School, which serves a similarly high-poverty population, has a rate of only 9.2%. While Falkville has improved from 23.8% in 2022-2023, attendance remains the school's most pressing issue and likely impacts learning.

Academically, Falkville shows a fascinating pattern. The school has maintained a consistent 3-star rating for a decade, but performance varies dramatically by grade level. In 2025-2026, 3rd grade math proficiency was just 14.29%—far below the district's 52.08%—yet by 5th grade, students achieved 85.11% proficiency in English, beating both the district (74.05%) and state (69.53%) averages. This "5th grade success" suggests the school effectively develops students over time, even if early grades struggle. The school also performs relatively well for its low-income students, ranking in the 66th percentile statewide for that subgroup. However, special education performance has declined from a 79th percentile ranking in 2018-2019 to 43rd percentile in 2025-2026. With per-student spending of $9,378, Falkville invests more than some better-performing neighbors like Priceville Elementary ($8,081), suggesting that addressing attendance and early math instruction could be the highest-impact strategies for improvement.

Open Quote The staff needs to step back and take A look at the security during afternoon dismissal. K thru 5 students are lined up in little piles The officer hired to protect these little ones is no where in site. The parking lot is where trouble could come from. And it is not patrolled. Seldom is any thing sent home for the parents to help the children, They just have backpack full of books but no direction as where help could be needed It is a tightknit group and they do stick together.
Some students have been passed to the 4th grade while failing 3rd grade math Close Quote
