Summary

Fairview High School is a public high school in Cullman, AL, serving 512 students in grades 9-12 within the Cullman County school district, where about 48% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Fairview is currently in the middle of the pack academically, but the bigger story is its recent decline. After earning a 4-star rating and ranking 106th in the state in 2023-2024, the school dropped to a 2-star rating and rank of 205th in 2025-2026. This fall is especially noticeable when compared to nearby schools that have improved over the same period—Holly Pond High School moved up to rank 95, and Vinemont High School jumped to rank 97. Fairview's 11th-grade test scores now trail both district and state averages in math, science, and English. This is a sharp reversal from just two years ago, when Fairview's math scores actually exceeded state averages. However, the school faces clear challenges, particularly for certain groups of students. English Language Learners saw a dramatic drop in performance, falling from the 83rd percentile to the 11th percentile over two years. For context, nearby Cullman High School (rank 12) and Arab High School (rank 17) are both 5-star schools just 10-12 miles away, with math proficiency rates around 50%—more than double Fairview's rate. While those city schools have different funding and demographics, they show what's achievable in the region. Fairview is at a critical point where targeted support for struggling students and attention to attendance could help reverse the recent trend.
