Summary

Weaver Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 559 students in grades PK-6 in Weaver, Alabama, which is part of the Calhoun County School District. While the district is ranked 64 out of 135 in the state, Weaver Elementary faces several challenges, including lower academic performance, achievement gaps among student subgroups, high chronic absenteeism, and a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.

Weaver Elementary's academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally below the Calhoun County and Alabama state averages across grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's 3rd grade math proficiency rate was 43.68% compared to the county's 40.98% and the state's 45.47%. Additionally, the school's performance on standardized tests varies significantly across student subgroups, with the school ranking lower for African American and White students compared to the state, indicating achievement gaps. However, the school performs better for special education students, ranking 216 out of 403 Alabama elementary schools in 2024-2025.

Compared to nearby schools like Pleasant Valley Elementary and Alexandria Elementary, which rank higher in the state and have stronger test scores, Weaver Elementary lags in academic outcomes and has lower per-student spending and higher student-teacher ratios. Addressing these areas, as well as the school's high chronic absenteeism rates, could help improve Weaver Elementary's overall performance and outcomes for its students.

Open Quote The students are not giving one on one help, mostly for 2 reasons; one the teachers rely on them to use devices (no text books for each student to take home, all copies or nothing at all (the copies are half sheet of paper so small and poor copies that they aren't able to read them)and they have too many kids in each room over 25 per room. The school Admin. worries more about how the school looks then it does for the learning. This school in the past was a school that was well above in the learning curve, now they are below. Parents and teachers have no communication between them, teachers come to work do what little they have to do and leave. I have personal left messages on phones, and written message and nothing was ever done. The school needs a lot of help to get back were it once was. Close Quote
