Summary:

Orange Beach City is served by a compact, elite two-school district—Orange Beach Elementary School (PK-6) and Orange Beach Middle/High School (7-12)—that together educate about 1,262 students and rank among the top 3% of all Alabama districts.

Both schools are standout performers. Orange Beach Elementary School ranks #9 in the state (99th percentile) and posts remarkable proficiency rates—exceeding 90% in English across all grades and hitting 95% in 4th-grade science, roughly double the state average. Orange Beach Middle/High School ranks #9 among Alabama high schools (98th percentile) with a perfect 100% graduation rate and exceptional 8th-grade science proficiency of 95.4%. The elementary school is the stronger of the two in English and early math, while the secondary school shines in science and college readiness. Both maintain favorable student-teacher ratios (about 15:1) and serve a relatively affluent community, with only about 19% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch.

The most notable concern is a sharp drop in 7th-grade math proficiency—from 66.7% to 30.1% in one year—making it the district's only subject near the state average. Secondary math overall shows year-to-year volatility, while elementary math remains consistently strong (88-89% in 4th and 5th grades). Chronic absenteeism also rises sharply from 4.1% at the elementary level to 11.6% at the secondary level, near the state average. Despite these challenges, the district's science instruction is a clear crown jewel, and its elementary literacy program delivers remarkably consistent 90%+ proficiency. With top-tier rankings, a perfect graduation rate, and strong community support, Orange Beach offers an exceptional education—though parents of incoming 7th graders may want to monitor math support closely.
