Summary

Auke Bay Elementary, a public school in Juneau, AK, serves 353 students in grades PK–6 and is part of the Juneau Borough School District. The school performs above district and state averages in both English language arts and mathematics, with math a particular strength: 45.6% of students were proficient in 2025–26, versus 35.0% district-wide and 32.2% across Alaska. Auke Bay recorded the highest math proficiency rate among nearby elementary schools and beat the district at every grade level tested, including 4th grade, where half of its students were proficient.

These results are notable given that Auke Bay has the lowest per-student spending among its comparable local schools and a higher student-teacher ratio (18.3) than most of its peers. Yet its statewide ranking has slipped from the 80th percentile a few years ago to the 53rd percentile today, a move from a 4-star to a 3-star rating. Male students and White students, by contrast, rank below their counterparts in those same categories, so the school may want to examine what is working for some students and not others. Comparisons within Juneau also show a shifting landscape: Sayeik: Gastineau Community School now surpasses Auke Bay in reading and science, while Sit Eeti Shaanax - Glacier Valley School has pulled even in math and reading despite serving more students from low-income families. Auke Bay remains a solid, resource-efficient school, but it no longer stands clearly above its neighbors as it once did.
