Summary

Mountain View Elementary serves 230 students in grades PK-6 in east-central Anchorage as part of the Anchorage School District. The school sits in a dense cluster of elementary schools within about two miles, yet its academic results are markedly lower than those of its neighbors. In 2025-26, Mountain View ranked 164th out of 166 Alaska elementary schools, placing it in the 1st percentile with a 0-star rating. Proficiency rates were dramatically below district and state averages across all subjects: just 8.9% of students met English language arts standards, 10.5% met math, and 10.3% met science. Free or reduced-price lunch eligibility was 102.6% — essentially universal poverty.

The contrast with nearby schools in the same district is striking. Orion Elementary School, 1.76 miles away, posted English language arts proficiency of 58.4%, math of 57.7%, and science of 79.6% — an 87th-percentile state ranking. Aurora Elementary (1.91 miles) and Government Hill Elementary (2.11 miles) also far outpaced Mountain View on every measure.
