Delta Junction Junior High School

Delta Junction Junior High School is a small public middle school in Delta Junction, Alaska, serving 128 students in grades 6 through 8 with a low 14-to-1 student-teacher ratio. While the surrounding Delta/Greely School District is one of the strongest in the state, ranking 4th out of 23 Alaska districts, this school has seen its own statewide ranking trend downward, falling from a 4-star rating in 2019 to a 2-star rating in the most recent 2025-2026 school year.

Academically, the school presents a mixed picture. In the latest testing year, proficiency rates in English (34.9%) and math (36.4%) hovered near the Alaska state average, but they lagged significantly behind the rest of the Delta/Greely School District by roughly 10 to 16 percentage points in nearly every subject. Because the school has roughly only 40 students per grade, annual proficiency rates can swing dramatically as different cohorts move through, so some of these recent drops may be magnified by the small sample size. There are no other public schools within 20 miles, making this the primary option for local families. That said, parents should note that while overall ratings have slipped, the school shows a clear strength: economically disadvantaged students, who make up about a quarter of the student body, have ranked in the low 80th percentile statewide over the last two years, indicating the school has found effective ways to support this significant group of learners.
