Summary

T H Rogers School is a unique, high-performing K-12 alternative school in Houston's Uptown area, serving 1,079 students within the Houston Independent School District (Isd).

This school completely redefines the term "alternative school." While many alternative schools in the area serve at-risk populations, T H Rogers operates more like a top-tier magnet or Vanguard program, achieving academic results that are nearly double, triple, or even quadruple the district and state averages. For example, in 2025-2026, 3rd-grade reading proficiency hit 97.94%, and 5th and 7th graders achieved a perfect 100% proficiency rate. In Algebra I, the school earned a 100% proficiency rate, compared to the district's 57.63%. This performance is consistent year after year, demonstrating a sustained culture of excellence. The school's dropout rate is also exceptionally low at just 0.9%, compared to the district's 3.8% and a staggering 47.4% at nearby Excel Academy Education Transition Center.

It's important to note that T H Rogers has a very low percentage of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds (only 11.31% receiving free/reduced lunch in 2024-2025), which is dramatically different from nearby schools like KIPP Sharpstown College Prep (95.56%) and Services-Ninos Charter High (95.86%). Even within the "alternative" category, the contrast is stark: Texas Connections Academy At Houston, a large online charter school in the same district, scored just 15.21% in 3rd-grade math, while T H Rogers scored 94.85%. While the school's math scores show a slight dip in 8th grade (80.95% proficiency), this is immediately followed by a perfect 100% in Algebra I, suggesting students who take advanced courses are exceptionally well-prepared.

Open Quote I attend this school and I am proud of it! This school has an amazing academics program. But don't let that fool you: it isn't only academics. The students that are able to, usually opt for one of our school's amazing academics teams. The student body is quite diverse and by going to this school you will be exposed to many different people with different cultures, ideas, and experiences. In all, I love this schools and I'm so glad I made the choice to apply and eventually attend this school. Close Quote
