Summary

Suntree Elementary School in Melbourne, FL, is a high-performing public school serving 585 students in grades PK through 6 within the Brevard school district, and it consistently ranks among the top 8% of elementary schools in Florida.

What truly sets Suntree apart is its remarkable consistency and balanced excellence. Over the past decade, the school has never dropped below the 86th percentile in state rankings, a stability that distinguishes it from nearby high-achievers like Viera Elementary School (97th percentile) and Manatee Elementary School (95th percentile), which have shown more fluctuation. Suntree also boasts an exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of 11.2%—nearly half the district average and less than a third of the state average—indicating strong student engagement and family support. This rate is significantly better than nearby schools like Ralph M Williams Junior Elementary School (13.6%) and Sherwood Elementary School (17.0%). Academically, Suntree shows uniform strength across all subjects and grades, with proficiency rates ranging from 71% in 3rd Grade ELA to an impressive 94% in 6th Grade Math. This balance is a key differentiator; for example, Spessard L. Holland Elementary School has a dip in 5th Grade ELA (69%), while Quest Elementary School shows a notable weakness in 5th Grade Math (65%).

A fascinating trend at Suntree is the exceptional performance of its 6th graders, who consistently achieve the highest scores in the school—90% proficiency in ELA and 94% in Math in the most recent year. This "6th Grade Peak" suggests the school is exceptionally effective at preparing students for middle school. Additionally, Suntree achieves its high rankings with a moderate spending level of $11,820 per student, making it more efficient than several lower-performing nearby schools like Sea Park Elementary School ($15,456 per student). While Viera Elementary School is the area's academic powerhouse, Suntree offers an elite public education that is clearly superior to most other options within a 5-mile radius.

Open Quote Old schooled system, food also in cafeteria for children is all fast food, not acceptable. Do not see my child thriving in this school environment at all. Anyone can teach but only few teach with their heart open for children to thrive, preparing them for this world. School system needs to undergo complete new ways of teaching and not being taught old stuff. We live in the very fast developing wold, what was taught back then is not acceptable now. Close Quote

Open Quote BEWARE ....School is way outdated. Buildings need repair. Contractors were replacing the old rain gutters and left old metal shards laying around all over the school ground where students play. This was brought to the administration and there was 0 reaction from them. No sense of urgency to correct the problem. The teachers are narcissistic. The only students the teachers "like" are those who fit in with his or her expectations, comfort zone, and ego for whatever reason. Any students who DON'T FIT are labeled with behavior issues, ignored, cast aside, dismissed, and even sabotaged. There is huge favoritism going on at this school with students of rich families that attend. Close Quote
