Summary

Capital High School is a public high school serving approximately 1,322 students in grades 9-12 within the Olympia School District, consistently earning a 4-star rating and ranking in the top quarter of Washington high schools.

The school has a notable strength in English Language Arts, where student proficiency significantly exceeds both district and state averages, but faces a clear challenge in mathematics, where its performance lags behind the Olympia School District average and its sister school, Olympia High School. This performance gap within the same district is striking, as Olympia High School ranks in the state's top 10%, while Capital ranks in the 74th percentile, despite Capital having higher per-student spending.

Capital maintains a strong 90.2% graduation rate, though its dropout rate is the highest among the district's comprehensive high schools. The school serves a student population with a higher level of economic need than Olympia High School but lower than North Thurston High School. It has shown impressive long-term improvement over the past decade, rising from the 37th to the 74th percentile statewide, positioning it as a solid-performing school between the elite Olympia High School and the more specialized alternative schools in the area.

Open Quote Our son has high functioning autism and has had full support from every staff member he has encountered at this school, he is getting A's in mainstream classes and working on social goals, he is in his Junior Year and already prepared for college. The staff is very caring and communicates with parents very well. The staff really know and care about my son. It was a relief when he started attending this school they have made everything easier for us as parents and have made our son very successful both academically and socially. Close Quote
