Summary

Bothell High School is a large, comprehensive public high school serving approximately 1,740 students in grades 9-12 within the highly-regarded Northshore School District in Bothell, Washington.

Academically, the school is a study in contrasts: it boasts an exceptionally strong 96% graduation rate and outstanding English Language Arts scores that rival top district schools like Inglemoor High School and Woodinville High School, and it provides remarkably effective support for English Language Learners, ranking in the state's top 5%. However, it faces significant challenges in math and, especially, science proficiency, where its scores fall notably below the district average and far behind nearby schools such as Juanita High School and the district's Innovation Lab High School.

When compared to its peers, Bothell High holds a solid middle position among the Northshore School District's comprehensive high schools, outperforming alternative programs like the Secondary Academy for Success but trailing the specialized Innovation Lab High School. Its statewide ranking has seen some fluctuation in recent years, and while it spends a similar amount per student as Inglemoor High School, its performance highlights specific academic areas that may benefit from targeted focus to match its overall success in graduation rates and language arts.

Open Quote Do not send your child here if you want a good experience.
This school is shady as all hell, and the teachers won’t treat you with respect. One teacher was threatening me and backed me up into a wall.
I have PTSD and hardly got any support here, rather just saying I’m the one to blame for my own problems, and that I just have to “deal with it”. I was a 2020 graduate and am now a college student and realizing just how awful the high school treated me, my college treats me with respect, whereas this school didn’t.
So if you’re “”normal””, send your kid here, if you have mental disabilities, do not go here. They are VERY uneducated. Close Quote

Open Quote I was a former student here (Class of 2011), and my experience was just average. School academics here are strong and you would typically find motivated peers and above-average teachers who cultivate/foster a positive learning environment. But besides that, there's not much else going for it that really left a strong mark on me five years later. I remember encountering a handful of ignorant teachers/mentors here, who gave special treatment to athletes and played favorites in classrooms often. This is not a good place for students who need to seek counselors or find resources for mental health services - I felt left behind in many cases and most were condescending or down-right rude. A few teachers often joined in on in-class bullying to make snide remarks in class to certain students who were challenged with unknown intellectual disabilities and/or self-esteem problems. I've always felt uncomfortable in classrooms during my time here, and it amazed me how the majority of my class were ignorant to it.

On a more positive note, I do remember a few amazing teachers who really cared to speak to students and understand them individually, motivate them, and cared to ask if everything was O.K. I'm sure much has changed since 2011, but it's disappointing to look back at my high school experience with indifference and forgetfulness. The overall environment of the school hinged upon your popularity, as perceived by others. It's a disappointing experience for me, and I know for certain I wasn't alone on it. Close Quote
