Summary

Pinewood Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 398 students in the Marysville School District, and it stands out for achieving solid academic results while serving a community with significant economic need.

Academically, Pinewood is a consistent performer, currently ranking in the top half of all Washington elementary schools and showing steady improvement over recent years. Its students meet or exceed state averages in English and Math, which is particularly notable as it outperforms many other schools in the district, including Sunnyside Elementary and Grove Elementary, despite having a higher percentage of students from low-income families. The school is also very effective in supporting specific groups, such as students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, where it ranks well above average. This success is achieved efficiently, with lower per-student spending than some lower-performing district schools like Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary and Marshall Elementary.

While Pinewood is a strength within the district, there are areas to watch, such as a dip in math scores in the 5th grade—a trend seen in other local schools—and a performance gap between male and female students. Compared to the highest-performing nearby school, the Marysville Coop Program, Pinewood achieves relatively close results while serving a much more economically diverse population. Overall, Pinewood demonstrates that strong leadership and effective teaching can lead to great student outcomes, making it a resilient and improving school in the community.

Open Quote Hi cap program is amazing at this school. New principal has made a huge difference these last few years. Wish Marysville would get the money to update this school. They are doing great things with what they've got, but better facilities would make these amazing teacher's jobs much easier Close Quote
