Summary

Arthur Jacobsen Elementary is a public elementary school (PK-5) serving about 367 students in a suburban area of Auburn, Washington, within the Auburn School District.

Academic performance at the school has been on a concerning downward trend for several years, placing it in the bottom 15% of all Washington elementary schools, despite the school having a favorable student-to-teacher ratio and spending more per student than some neighboring schools. A particularly notable challenge is a sharp drop in proficiency by 5th grade, which is more extreme than at nearby schools, suggesting potential issues with student preparation in the upper elementary years. Furthermore, the school's struggles appear to be more pronounced than those of the Auburn School District overall, indicating challenges that may be specific to the school itself.

Interesting comparisons with nearby schools highlight that demographics alone do not determine outcomes. For instance, Willow Crest Elementary, located less than a mile away and with a very similar student population, performs significantly higher. Within the district, Arthur Jacobsen performs better than Dick Scobee Elementary School but lags behind others like Hazelwood Elementary School and Lea Hill Elementary School. When looking at the neighboring Kent School District, performance is highly variable, with Arthur Jacobsen outperforming schools like Meadow Ridge Elementary School but falling behind others like Meridian Elementary School.

Open Quote My daughter has attended Arthur Jacobsen Elementary from K-4th grade so far and I absolutely love this school. The office ladies are amazing to work with, all of my daughters teachers have been very informative on what goes on in class on a weekly basis and when you have a question about your childs school work they are prompt and helpful about working with you. Would highly recommend this school. Not to mention it is clean and well put together. Go AJ Thunderbirds! Close Quote
