Summary

Crossroads PreK-8 School is a public school in Norfolk, Virginia, serving 750 students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. The school is part of the Norfolk City Public Schools district, which has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Crossroads PreK-8 School consistently ranks in the bottom 20% of Virginia elementary schools, it has some strengths in specific subject areas. The school excels in 8th-grade Algebra I, with 100% proficiency, significantly outperforming the district and state averages. In mathematics, Crossroads performs better than the district in several grade levels, though still lags behind state averages. Similarly, in English reading, the school outperforms the district in multiple grades but falls short of state standards. However, the school's overall academic performance remains a concern, and it faces challenges with high chronic absenteeism rates and a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

When compared to nearby schools in the Norfolk City Public Schools district, some schools, such as Larrymore Elementary and Tarrallton Elementary, perform significantly better than Crossroads PreK-8 School. While the nearby schools share similar high percentages of minority and economically disadvantaged students, their academic performance and other metrics suggest that the challenges faced by Crossroads are not unique to the school but rather a systemic issue within the district that requires a comprehensive approach to address.

Open Quote It's a very hard high poverty school. Poor management, lots of bullies among students and even to teachers from students, parents and administrators. Lack of resources, no support, take up all planning time, no help of making copies. People like to report each other. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter's education was hampered at this school. She did not learn anything, except what she already learned in Kindergarten and first grade while we lived in NOVA. What she did learn last year for second grade, is what I taught her at home. I'm happy she only had to attend one year at this school. Avoid at all costs. Close Quote
