Summary

Cedar Valley Middle in Austin, TX, is a high-performing public school in the Round Rock Independent School District (Isd), serving 1,306 students in grades 6 through 8 with a long track record of academic excellence.

Cedar Valley Middle consistently ranks among the top 3% of all Texas middle schools, placing 58th out of 2,335 schools statewide. This places it in a tier with other top performers like Canyon Vista Middle (ranked 31st) and James Garland Walsh Middle (ranked 102nd), but significantly above nearby schools like Pearson Ranch Middle (139th) and Noel Grisham Middle (249th). The school excels in advanced mathematics, with 95.61% of students proficient on the Algebra I End-of-Course exam—far exceeding the district average of 69.61% and the state average of 54.03%. Cedar Valley also shines in 8th-grade Social Studies, where 76.01% of students are proficient compared to the district average of 52.33%.

One of the school's standout strengths is its exceptional support for Special Education students, ranking in the 99th percentile statewide—the highest subgroup ranking for the school. This contrasts with even top-performing peers like Canyon Vista, which does not show the same targeted strength. While Cedar Valley faces the same "7th grade math dip" seen across nearly all schools, its 7th-grade math proficiency of 45.83% is still significantly higher than the district average of 26.98%. The school achieves these results with relatively low per-student spending ($7,966), suggesting high operational efficiency and a strong, supportive parent community.

Open Quote My kids are in Cedar Valley middle school and we all have good experience. Teachers are highly experienced and dedicated, maybe because they have been there for so long. The huge bonus is a Principal, Mr. Groff who is involved in all the activities at the school. They have many after-school activities and clubs run by teachers which my kids are taking part and enjoying it. This school is not least than any Private school and I highly recommend it. Open Quote I don't care what other parents are saying, this school is about as fake as it gets. I put my children into private school to avoid this school because of all the stuff that I have heard families going through as their children attend Cedar Valley. A girl slammed a bag of books into my friend's daughter's head, which resulted into a massive concussion, and the school avoided the matter completely and even DEFENDED the girl/bully in order to keep their 5 star rating because apparently bullying is allowed, as long as it doesn't become public. My friend had to pay over $2000 in medical bills and even though she hired a lawyer, the school would not help or acknowledge the matter. The bully/girl's parent of course avoided the matter as well, so my friend had to pay the medical bills herself. This is absolutely inexcusable and the school should be put under investigation, not only because of this specific matter, but multiple other matters that I have heard of from multiple parents. The principal himself is an extreme dictator and I even went up to the school to talk to him about a few matters when deciding whether or not to enroll my kids in this school or private school, and he avoided all accusations and attempted to pull off the "everything is perfect here" attitude. I will not have a single part in this school and I continue to urge all the parents around the area to do the same. Close Quote
