Summary

Meadow Village Elementary is a PK-5 public school in San Antonio, TX, serving 367 students within the Northside Independent School District (Isd), and it serves a high-poverty community where over 80% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school is in the midst of a remarkable turnaround. After years of struggling in the bottom 20th percentile of Texas elementary schools, Meadow Village jumped from the 19th percentile to the 39th percentile in the 2025-2026 school year—its highest ranking in nearly a decade. This 20-percentile-point surge is a rate of improvement not seen in any nearby school, such as Adams Hill Elementary, Hull Elementary, Hatchett Elementary, Passmore Elementary, or Cable Elementary, which have remained stagnant or declined. The school is especially effective with its low-income students, who ranked in the 62nd percentile statewide—far above the school's overall rank. Its Gifted and Talented program is also a strength, consistently ranking in the 60th percentile or higher. Interestingly, the closest high-performing school, Idea Mays Academy, achieves a similar overall rank (39th percentile) but with a lower poverty rate and much larger class sizes (20:1 vs. 10.2:1), suggesting Meadow Village's success may be more resource-intensive.

Despite these gains, challenges remain. A persistent gap exists between reading and math: average reading proficiency across grades 3-5 is 46.4%, while math is 41.3%, with 3rd-grade math (34.62%) a particular concern. Additionally, unlike nearby schools like Hull Elementary, Westwood Terrace Elementary, Glenn Elementary, and Cable Elementary, Meadow Village does not offer the STAAR test in Spanish. This could mean its English Language Learner students are tested in a language they are not yet proficient in, potentially depressing overall scores. The school's recent trajectory is promising, but sustaining this momentum will require closing the math gap and considering Spanish-language testing options.
