Summary

Roosevelt High School in San Antonio, TX, is a large public high school serving 2,431 students in grades 9-12 as part of the North East Independent School District (Isd), where over 71% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school faces significant challenges, with a graduation rate of 78.8% that is notably lower than the district average of 87.5% and far below high-performing nearby schools like Robert G Cole Middle/High School (98.3%) and Sst Sa College Prep High School (98.5%). Its dropout rate of 6.0% is nearly three times the district average and the highest among comparable traditional high schools in the area, including MacArthur High School.

Academically, Roosevelt consistently performs below district and state averages on STAAR End-of-Course exams, with proficiency rates often 10-20 percentage points lower. For instance, only 40.8% of students were proficient in Algebra I compared to 60.5% district-wide. However, the school shows a notable strength in U.S. History, where proficiency rates have remained between 70% and 73% over the last four years, often matching or exceeding the state average. Additionally, Roosevelt excels in supporting its Special Education students, who ranked in the 74th percentile statewide in 2025-2026, earning a 4-star rating—a stark contrast to the school's overall 2-star rating and a strength not commonly seen in nearby schools.

While Roosevelt's per-student spending of about $9,600 is lower than high-performing neighbors like Robert G. Cole ($18,443), it is comparable to MacArthur High School ($9,498), which achieves better academic results, suggesting funding alone isn't the solution. The school's student-teacher ratio of roughly 15.8:1 is also in line with district peers. Compared to its closest neighbor, Premier High School-San Antonio Windcrest (0.26 miles away), which has a 34% graduation rate and 16.5% dropout rate, Roosevelt serves as a more stable option for families in the immediate area despite its own challenges.

Open Quote The students, that aren't apart of the magnet programs, are absolutely disrespectful and not focused on their academic lives and more on sex and drugs. From time to time, you see a condom on the floor or hear conversations about drugs, swears, or sex.
The administration is absolutely stupid and crazy. For example, last year the administration was planning on banning magnet program stoles because it made the other students who were not in the magnet programs "left out and made them feel bad."
The teachers, however, try their hardest, as they have to deal with the students who give them a hard time via attitude and academically. These teachers honestly deserve to work at a better school.I myself am part of their magnet program called Design and Technology Academy, so I am not entirely exposed to Roosevelt, but enough to say that this school isn't a school you would want your kids to attend. I HIGHLY recommend that if you were to attend Roosevelt High School to try to apply a magnet program. Close Quote
