Summary

Cypress Elementary in Cedar Park, TX, is a mid-sized school serving 506 students in grades PK-5 within the Leander Independent School District (Isd), and it has a strong track record of consistent, above-average performance, earning a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for over a decade.

This school is a reliable, high-quality choice in a competitive area. While it is not an elite school like its neighbors Canyon Creek Elementary (100th percentile) or Deer Creek Elementary (96th percentile), Cypress has never dropped below a 4-star rating, offering a consistency that some nearby schools lack. Reading is a clear strength, with students in every grade outperforming both district and state averages. The school has also shown a remarkable recovery in 3rd-grade math, jumping from 31.58% proficiency in 2023-2024 to 47.62% in 2025-2026, now exceeding the state average. With a favorable student-to-teacher ratio of 13:1, Cypress provides an environment where students can get more individualized attention.

A standout feature is Cypress's exceptional performance with English Language Learner (ELL) students, ranking in the 86th percentile—higher than its overall 82nd percentile ranking. However, the school faces a significant equity gap: its performance with students from low socio-economic backgrounds ranks in the 18th percentile, a stark contrast to its overall success. This suggests that while Cypress is an excellent choice for many families, it may need to focus more resources on supporting its most economically disadvantaged students. Overall, Cypress is a solid, above-average school that delivers strong results, especially in reading, and is a great option for families seeking a consistently good education in a high-performing area.

Open Quote Just very concern about the comments left by previous reviewer, whose rant has nothing to do with the program of Cypress, but instead on perceived procedural issues within the school district. Cypress is a fantastic school and many great teachers and administrators do not deserve such inane review. My son attends this fabulous school and we could not be happier. Close Quote

Open Quote Beware if planning to attend Cypress (or any LISD school) as there has been repeated rezoning of neighborhoods about every two years. My opinion is that the School Board doesn't appear to really care about concerns of parents and neighborhoods regarding the continual churning of attendance zones. I feel they will do what they want based on School Board Committees that run amok each year making rezoning recommendations that are based on both highly speculative attendance forecasts and weak statistical analysis in my opinion. The board has even gone so far as planning to divide wholly zoned neighborhoods into separate pieces to serve their long term "plans". My opinion is that if you can tolerate being in a situation where neighborhoods are herded like mindless cattle, enjoy the thrills of not knowing what school your child will attend year-to-year, and can stomach watching your children cry their hearts out because he/she is losing their friends on a regular basis, then Cypress (and LISD) is the place for you. Otherwise, I would highly recommend prospective families look elsewhere if seeking to relocate or if deciding between Cypress (LISD) and private schooling. Close Quote
