Summary

Central High School in Keller, TX, is a large 4-star high school serving 2,410 students in grades 9-12 within the highly-rated Keller Independent School District (Isd). While the school remains a solid choice, it has experienced a clear downward trend in its state ranking over the past decade, dropping from the 91st percentile in 2016-2017 to the 71st percentile in 2025-2026. This decline is a key differentiator from nearby schools like Keller High School, which has improved to the 91st percentile, and the district's magnet school, Keller Collegiate Academy, which ranks in the 99th percentile.

The most significant academic challenge at Central High School is a persistent weakness in Algebra I, where proficiency rates (36.8% in 2025-2026) lag nearly 20 percentage points behind the district average (55.05%) and the state average (54.03%). This contrasts sharply with its strong English department, where English II Reading proficiency (74%) far exceeds the state average (59.88%). The school also excels in serving specific student groups, with English Language Learners ranking in the 80th percentile statewide and Gifted & Talented students in the 91st percentile. However, support for Special Education and low socio-economic status students has declined in recent years, which may be contributing to the overall ranking drop.

Interestingly, Central High School outperforms Fossil Ridge High School in overall ranking (71st vs. 60th percentile) despite having a lower percentage of economically disadvantaged students (31% vs. 50%). This suggests the school may not be as effective at closing achievement gaps as its ranking implies. The presence of Keller Collegiate Academy, which draws top-performing students, may also be impacting Central's metrics. For parents, Central High School offers strong English instruction and excellent programs for advanced learners and English learners, but the school's declining trajectory and Algebra I struggles are important factors to consider when comparing options within the district.

Open Quote e moved to Keller from
Mississippi my sons 9th grade year. I could write you a book on how amazing it is, but you really need to just get here and experience it for yourself. They not only offer a large list of regular classes, but lots of Pre AP, AP and Dual Credit classes as well. Just as importantly, they also offer kindness, compassion and solutions to difficult situations you or your child might find yourselves in.
The clubs and sports my son is part of are simply amazing as well.
This schools population is actually larger than the small towns population we moved from but it I can assure you it’s welcoming and accommodating nature still makes you feel as loved and at home as a small town might.
We love Central and o Lt wish we had been a part of KISD schools all along. Close Quote

Open Quote I am a sophomore at central high school and I truly love it. The teachers are wonderful and really care about students. All my teachers are very easy to talk to and knew my name outside of class. They are easy to have a personal relationship with. I like the fact that the school is so big! It's easy to find your niche with all the clubs that they have. They do alot of fun stuff for the students like SAW week. It's Student Appreciation Week, where they spend a week just doing nice things for the students and I think they take the school for advantage by saying the school sucks. Top 10% is pretty hard to get into, you have to have about All AP/Pre-AP classes and have A's and B's in all of them. Overall Central's a good school, and i'm glad to go here. :) Close Quote
